Currently Playing : darkSector

Since Gears of War brought it's cover system to the masses (I know it didn't invent it but it certainly made it popular) we've seen other games borrow it. Uncharted: Drakes Fortune was one and now comes darkSector.

The game starts in moody black and white with our hero in full military uniform and gimp mask. It's not the greatest opening level ever.. it's hard to see what's going on and it's dull.. But don't give up there.. Stick with it and in chapter two things get much better.. Firstly with the use of a nice colour palette. Secondly the story dictates your character gets infected and the gimp mask comes off.

But the Lord taketh away and he giveth too.. He gives you the 'Glave' which is like a giant throwing star crossed with a boomerang so you can throw it and it always comes back.. it gives another dimension to the duck and cover system. There's a nod to Resi 4 with shop keeper hiding in the sewers too and once you've earned enough cash to buy a new gun things get even better (you can pick up discarded enemy weapons but your infection means that they self destruct in 30 seconds or so).

And that's pretty much it really.. It plays solidly, there's some good boss battles (And I normally despises those) some upgrades for the Glave and some decent levels and new enemy types.. I'll hopefully finish it prior to the 29th.
