There was an article on Eurogamer yesterday that seemed to suggest that traditional summer drought was going to end..
Not this year it seems. We've seen some big name games released in the Spring of 2009 and EA may be releasing some of it's games a little earlier this year.. But having just checked the release schedule on Play from now until September, what I'd class as the traditional Summer months, seems as blank as ever.
I do have a couple of titles on the back burner (Mass Effect and Silent Hill 2 spring to mind) and I've got a lot of stuff to catch up on so it's not a huge deal but it seems that once again it's going to be an expensive Q4.

Purchase Power
I've had a 1000 points kicking around on my Wii since I bought the thing at christmas and while I don't regularly browse the virtual console to see what's about I do keep in touch with new releases via Eurogamer... I've stopped downloading old games for new consoles because they never live up to my memory of them (Sensi being the last purchase and responsible for another shattered dream) so WiiWare sounded like just the thing.
I've been following LostWinds development in EDGE and I have a massive soft spot for David Braben who co-wrote what I consider the greatest video game of all time (Elite in case your too young to remember) so it seemed like a no brainer for my 1000 points.. Job done.

Great Expectations
There's been a fair bit written about Little Big Planet . From EDGE to Eurogamer most recently and plenty in OPM on many occasions. It's starting to look very promising. Obviously the content creation has received a great deal of attention. I'm not a particularly creative person (if you couldn't tell from my awesome blog writing ability) but I am looking forward to being able to sample the stuff generated by people who are... And judging by the amount of time spent by some people decorating cars in Forza 2 there's plenty of people with the time and the talent (and the lack of sex life most probably) to make it very rewarding and extend it's life, possibly, for a long while.

Purchase Power
I picked up The Darkness for twenty notes today. I haven't played a good FPS adventure for a while and it was either Clive Barkers Jericho which was also in Game for £20. Both where games that where on my radar pre-release but neither seemed to realise their full potential for a purchase on release. Having checked out Eurogamer The Darkness scored higher and seemed to offer less frustration.
